Record availability

Reports use public NHTSA VIN decode and safety-recall data. Plate lookup uses CarAPI. This is not a commercial title, accident, or ownership history file. Available records vary by vehicle.

A section marked “no records,” “not available,” or similar means none were returned by the sources we queried for that VIN at generation time. It does not guarantee the vehicle has never had such an event.

Not an official government report

STATEVIN does not claim that any report is an official government report, that history is 100% complete, or that every accident, title brand, odometer event, or theft is guaranteed to appear. Reporting practices vary by jurisdiction, insurer, auction, and data provider.

STATEVIN is not an NMVTIS data provider and does not claim NMVTIS certification.

Free identification vs paid history

Free VIN identification uses manufacturer-reported specification data (such as NHTSA vPIC) and related decode tools. That identification layer is separate from paid history research products, which compile third-party and public history sources where available.

STATEVIN is not a government website. NHTSA and other public sources remain authoritative for their own publications.

STATEVIN Analysis

Where a report includes a “STATEVIN Analysis” or similar narrative section, that content is an editorial summary based on the same validated history payload shown in the report. It is labeled separately from provider records and is not itself an independent database of accidents or titles.

Your purchase and use decisions

You are solely responsible for decisions to buy, sell, finance, insure, repair, or otherwise deal with a vehicle. Before a significant transaction, consider a professional inspection, title review, and any official records available in the relevant jurisdiction.

STATEVIN is not liable for gaps, delays, or inaccuracies in third-party or public source data, or for decisions made solely on report contents, to the fullest extent permitted by law. See also our Terms of Service.

Sources

For a plain-language overview of how we describe data sources, see Data Sources. Provider coverage and product entitlements determine which categories appear in Essential, Complete, and Ultimate plans.
