Privacy Policy
STATEVIN respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect when you use our VIN check and vehicle-history services, why we collect it, and the choices available to you.
Effective: September 28, 2026
Who we are
Operator: STATEVIN
Mailing address: United States
STATEVIN provides free vehicle identification tools and paid vehicle-history research products through this website and related portals (customer, showroom partner, and staff where enabled).
Privacy requests: privacy@statevin.com. General support: support@statevin.com.
Scope
This policy applies to personal information processed when you visit our site, create an account, complete checkout, open a report, contact support, or use partner portals. It does not cover third-party websites or services we do not control.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use STATEVIN, we may collect:
- Account & contact data — email address, optional name, password or auth tokens, and support correspondence.
- Order data — product selected, amount charged, currency, order identifiers, payment status, and delivery status.
- Vehicle identifiers you submit — VIN and, where supported, license plate and state. These are needed to identify the vehicle and retrieve available history.
- Report access data — secure links, access tokens, download events, and portal views needed to deliver and protect purchased reports.
- Technical & security data — IP address, device/browser type, approximate location derived from IP, timestamps, and fraud-prevention signals.
- Referral / partner attribution — referral codes or partner identifiers when you arrive via a showroom or affiliate link.
- Site analytics — Microsoft Clarity and similar tools help us understand how the site is used (page paths, clicks, heatmaps). VIN, email, and similar fields are masked where practical. See this Privacy Policy for more detail.
We do not intentionally collect government ID numbers, full payment card numbers, CVV, or online banking credentials.
Payments
Card and alternative payment details are processed by our configured payment provider. STATEVIN stores payment references, status, and amounts needed for receipts, refunds, and fraud review — not full card PANs or CVV.
How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Process purchases and deliver report access (web, PDF, email)
- Provide customer support and resolve order issues
- Authenticate portals and protect accounts
- Prevent fraud, abuse, chargeback misuse, and unauthorized access
- Attribute eligible partner or showroom referrals
- Improve reliability and, with consent, understand product usage
- Comply with law, enforce terms, and respond to lawful requests
Retention and report privacy
Purchased reports are private and are not intended for search engine indexing. We retain order records, access logs, and report artifacts as needed to deliver the product, provide support, meet legal and tax obligations, and prevent fraud.
When retention is no longer necessary, we delete or de-identify data where feasible, subject to backup and legal hold constraints.
Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the data — including encrypted transport (HTTPS), access controls, and tokenized guest report links. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; please protect your email inbox and account credentials.
International processing
STATEVIN and its processors may process information in the United States and other countries where we or our vendors operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.
Children
STATEVIN is directed to adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child provided information, contact privacy@statevin.com and we will take appropriate steps.
Your choices and rights
Subject to applicable law (including CCPA/CPRA for California residents and similar state laws), you may request access, correction, deletion, or information about categories of data collected. You may also appeal a denied request where the law provides that right.
To submit a request, email privacy@statevin.com from the address associated with your order or account and include enough detail for us to verify and locate your records (such as order ID). We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. Some requests may be limited by fraud-prevention, security, or legal obligations.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date above will change when we do. Material changes may also be highlighted on the site or by email when appropriate.
